Another Sunday, another hockey game. I spend nearly every Sunday night at the ice rink watching Todd play hockey. Not where I'd love to be on a Sunday night, but it makes him happy when I go....so I do. Last night they played a team that I thought they'd have some on-ice issues with (given that Todd boarded one of their players - blatantly - when they met last) so I was a little nervous.

Surprisingly they played pretty well - not to knock Todd's team but 95% of them only put on skates one night a week and they never practice as a team. They wound up tied and in his league there is no OT, they go straight to the shoot out.

Todd went #3 in the shoot out, and I've never seen him in a shoot out before. Here he is taking off! Go Todd! He wasn't successful, but his team did win.

Today was the first day of doing my photo-a-day project that I was torn between photos!

The kids are with us every other weekend and Ashley takes pictures of everything - so I was tempted to include one of her photos. But then I remembered that this is all about me. ;o)

At our house we play - A LOT. Todd was throwing an 8 pound ball to Ashley while she was on a big yoga ball getting her to do situps with the weighted ball. While I love my step-daughter to death the adjective "coordinated" doesn't necessarily come to mind when I think of her, so this was very amusing to watch. I love this picture because the dog is also in it and she was very excited about this game - running around and barking. Trust me when I say that our house is never quiet on the weekends.

My other photo choice was going to be our lemonade. I am on this homemade lemonade kick currently and got a juicer this weekend to make the squeezing a little easier. Not one to let things go, when we were done with the lemonade Ashley wanted to use food coloring to make it purple. Instead she found turquoise instructions on the food coloring box and went that route. It was a lovely shade of teal, so we enjoyed Sharks lemonade with dinner that night.

I don't know if you know this....but it's summer....and it's damn hot. Have a mentioned that?

The dog and I were hanging by the pool after 10:00 on Friday night trying to keep cool. It was still close to 90 at this time. I sat with my feet in the water (with a glass of vino, of course!) and she swam.

Seriously?

I.Hate.Heat.

Growing up in the Bay Area, 80 was a hot day. I get in my car to leave work and this is what the temp reading is on the dashboard. Granted, to be fair (and a little less dramatic), it did get down to a balmy 106 and stayed there. Ugh. Remind me why I moved to this part of California?

Why does seeing an animal lay like this always make me giggle? So un-ladylike. A human can't get away with this (well, most humans), but Merlot can!

We have babies!
This is the 3rd set of Dove babies that have been born in our backyard this summer. The last baby, born about a month or so ago, was an only child and he/she wound up out of the nest too soon, so I'm keeping an eye on the 2 babies in the nest now to make sure they make it okay. I thought there was only 1 baby again, but I caught a glimpse of two tiny tails the other day.....it must be crowded in there!

I love having dove babies in our backyard!

Still on my walking high, I decided that my new sticker for the car made me happy today!

The Avon Walk is O-V-E-R. 39.3 miles total. Day 1, well, sucked. Day 2 was so much better. I don't even think I need to explain why I picked this picture. I'm so proud of myself!

Day 1 of the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer. 26.2 miles. It was daunting, somewhat exciting, and very, very tough. Having grown up in the Bay Area it seems a little odd that I've never walked over the Golden Gate Bridge, but I've always wanted to. On day 1 of the walk, I got to do it twice. The first time it was foggy and wet, the second time windy, FREEZING, and loud. Both pretty unpleasant....but I did it! This picture was taken on the way to the second trip across.

July 10, 2009

The next 3 days will be dedicated to photos from my Avon Walk for Breast Cancer. In order to walk I had to raise a minimum of $1800, which I was terrified about. However, I wound up raising over $2600! As a 'prize' for raising at least $2200, you got this hat....and I wore it with pride all weekend!

My mom called me last night and asked if she could see me today since she didn't see me on or before my birthday. Turned out I was free in the middle of the day so she and my dad came to my salon and took me to lunch. We went to a fab new restaurant called Suede Blue and ate like carnivores. My dad and I each had the prime rib french dip (so good) and mom had the open face beef tenderloin sandwich. They also gave me a very cool charm bracelt with 3 charms on it already - a pink bead (for my walk this weekend), a shoe, and a purse. What a great surprise the whole thing was.

It was such a nice time.....and we had good wine too! I have awesome parents!

My husband is banned from buying me gifts. Seriously. BANNED. The ban went into effect 2 years ago when he gave me exercise equipment for Christmas. He may as well have wrapped up a note that read, "Babe, you're fat."

So, having finally learned his lesson, he did not get me a gift for my birthday this year. Instead, he gave my side of the closet a make over.

Thank you Chico!

I got another birthday present today! I'm prepping for the 2 day Avon Walk for Breast Cancer this weekend and this came from one of biggest cheerleaders. Fun!

July 6, 2009

This photo is actually a little emotional for me, but it says a lot about my life. My husband, Todd, travels for work every week. He's gone typically between 3 and 5 days out of the week. When he packs, the dog and I sit on the bed and watch, and we talk as he packs. This week he was packing on Monday - to be gone Tuesday through Friday. I love that you can also see his work shirts hanging in the doorway. *sigh* He's off again....

Today I'm 36 - July 5, 2009

Today I'm 36. Holy smokes. How did I get closer to 40 than 30? Wasn't 30 just last year? My mom was right.....time flies.

I heard about the idea to post a Photo-a-Day for a year through another website and thought it would be a fun way to look back on a year. Will I stick to it? We'll see. I know I definitely won't post to this blog every day, but I will try my best to take a picture a day and catch up here when I can. It's a project designed to help me remember the little things in life, who I met, what I did, what I learned - all in all, what was important to me at the time which gives a glimpse into who I am. Should be fun!

My July 5th photo captures a great time - brunch at Rio City Cafe with Debra and Cindy. It was a fantastic start to my day!
